How to watch Apple TV, Prime Video & more in a Tesla — even while moving
TessDrive puts the full catalog of streaming apps on your Tesla's screen — Apple TV, Prime Video, Paramount+, Max, Peacock, ESPN, Hulu, Plex and anything else you install — and, unlike Tesla's built-in Theater, it keeps playing for passengers even while the car is moving, not just when parked. The apps run on the TessDrive device and stream to your Tesla's built-in browser over its own private WiFi.
Tesla Theater vs. TessDrive
Tesla's built-in Theater is handy, but it has two real limits. It's a limited, curated set of apps — so services like Apple TV, Paramount+, Max, Peacock and ESPN simply aren't there — and it only works while the car is in Park. The moment you shift into drive, it stops.
TessDrive is different on both counts: it runs the entire Android app catalog, and because it streams to your Tesla's browser it keeps playing for passengers while you're on the road.
Can you watch while driving?
Yes — this is the part Tesla's own Theater won't do. TessDrive is built for passenger entertainment on the road, not just when parked. Theater locks out the instant you leave Park; TessDrive plays through the browser, so whoever's riding along can keep watching while you drive. It is for passengers and must never distract the driver — always follow all applicable laws.
The apps you can add
Because TessDrive is genuine Android, you install apps the way you would on any Android device — through the built-in App Installer, plus full sideloading. That includes the services Tesla doesn't offer natively:
- Apple TV, Prime Video, Paramount+, Max, Peacock, ESPN, Hulu
- Plex and other media servers, plus music apps like Spotify
- Netflix, YouTube and Disney+ too — so everything lives in one place, not split between Theater and a device
The steps
- Power on TessDrive with the included USB power cable. Nothing else plugs into the car.
- Give it internet — your phone's hotspot, or any WiFi you already use.
- Open your Tesla's browser and go to the TessDrive address. The TessDrive screen appears on your Tesla display.
- Install your apps from the built-in App Installer, then sign in.
- Watch, controlled by touch on your Tesla's own screen — parked or, for passengers, on the move.
Why the picture actually plays (and doesn't black out)
Screen-mirroring adapters mirror your phone, and protected apps detect that and block the video — leaving audio with a black screen. TessDrive is not a mirror. The apps run on the TessDrive device itself, and your Tesla's browser simply displays the result, so protected content plays within the quality tier each app permits on this hardware. TessDrive does not circumvent DRM or unlock higher resolutions. See how this compares to other devices →
Which Teslas can do this?
Any Tesla with a modern browser (MCU2 or newer): all Model 3, Model Y and Cybertruck, and Model S / Model X from roughly mid-2018 onward, or an older S/X upgraded to MCU2. New to TessDrive? Start here →
