Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 1, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information TessDrive collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. TessDrive is designed to be a local, in-vehicle appliance — by design, most of what happens on your device stays on your device. We collect as little as we can to run the product and support you.
The short version
- Your streaming logins, Wi-Fi/hotspot credentials, and app data stay on your device. We don’t receive them, and we don’t have a copy.
- We collect your email only if you give it to us (signing up, contacting support, or joining the beta).
- Diagnostic logs are sent to us only when you choose to send them.
- We do not sell your personal information.
Information you provide
When you contact us, sign up for updates, request beta access, or place an order, we may collect your name, email address, and any message content you send. If you buy through a crowdfunding or payment platform, that platform collects your order and payment details under its own privacy policy; we receive only the information needed to fulfill and support your order (for example, a shipping address and order status). We never see your full payment-card details.
Information from your device
TessDrive assigns each device a random Device ID (for example, TD-XXXX-XXXX). This identifier is not tied to your name or identity unless you share it with us for support. When you use the in-app “Send diagnostics” feature, the device uploads a diagnostic bundle (such as recent logs, software version, board model, and performance data) so we can investigate an issue. Diagnostics are sent only when you initiate them.
Icon library contributions
If you upload an icon to the TessDrive icon library, we store the image you submit and basic information about it (such as the folder and name you choose). Uploaded icons are public within the Service. Do not include personal information in images you upload. See our Terms of Service and DMCA / Copyright Policy.
Information collected automatically
Like most websites and online services, our website and update servers automatically log standard technical information — such as IP address, browser type, and the pages or files requested — for security, abuse prevention, and reliability. Our site is hosted on Cloudflare, which processes this information on our behalf.
How we use information
- To provide, maintain, and improve the Service and deliver software updates;
- To fulfill orders and provide customer support;
- To investigate and fix problems (using diagnostics you send);
- To communicate with you about updates, your order, or the beta program;
- To keep the Service secure and prevent abuse; and
- To comply with legal obligations.
How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with:
- Service providers who help us operate the Service — for example Cloudflare (hosting), GitHub (software distribution), our email provider, and our crowdfunding or payment platform — and only as needed to perform those services;
- Legal and safety recipients, when we reasonably believe disclosure is required by law or necessary to protect rights, safety, or the integrity of the Service; and
- A successor in the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.
Cookies & local storage
Our website uses minimal cookies and browser local storage needed for the site and portal to function (for example, to remember preferences or keep you signed in). The TessDrive device stores settings and app data locally on the device itself, not on our servers.
Data retention
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described here — for example, to support your device, fulfill your order, or meet legal obligations — and then delete or anonymize it. Diagnostic bundles are retained only as long as needed to investigate issues.
Security
We take reasonable measures to protect the information we hold. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Because your device stores your credentials and app sessions locally, you are responsible for securing the device — change the default access-point password when prompted, connect only to networks you trust, and sign out and reset the device before transferring or disposing of it.
Your rights & choices
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of the personal information we hold about you by emailing [email protected]. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR (EU/UK) or the CCPA/CPRA (California), including the right to know, delete, and opt out of any “sale” or “sharing” of personal information — which we do not do. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
International users
TessDrive is operated from the United States, and information we collect is processed and stored in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate. By using the Service, you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States.
Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above, and material changes will be reflected on this page.
